The Argus, Saturday 8 October 1910, page 18

New "Currie" Liner Janus arrives today

According to reports already received regarding the new "Currie" liner Janus, she is certain to quickly establish herself a favourite among passengers and shippers in the trade between Australia and Indian ports, for which she was specifically constructed.  To-Day the Janus will arrive in Hobson's Bay on her maiden voyage from Great Britain via Calcutta, having gone in the latter port to load a large cargo of Eastern produce for the Commonwealth.  The liner which was built by Palmer's Company Limited for Messrs Archibald Currie and Co, is said to be a remarkably fine looking and attractively modelled vessel having a deadweight  capacity equal to 7,000 tons, as well as accommodation on the most modern plan for 600 horses, the carriage of which constitutes a very important feature of the Australian - Indian business.  Her length is 400ft and she has an ample beam of 32ft which should ensure a maximum of steadiness at sea.  Close attention was given by the designers and builders to the requirements of passengers.  In the first class ?? voyagers are provided for, the limit of the second class being 32.  The Janus which is under the command of Captain Colin McDonald will upon arrival, berth alongside the Port Melbourne Town Pier.  En route from Calcutta she made calls at Fremantle and Adelaide.
